Ingredients:
2 pkgs active dry yeast (2 Tbsp)
2 2/3 cups lukewarm water
½ cup nonfat dry milk
2 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp salt
1/3 cup cooking oil
7 to 7 ½ cups sifted flour
Directions:
- Sprinkle yeast on lukewarm water; stir to dissolve.
- Add dry milk, sugar, salt, oil and 3 cups flour.
- Beat with electric mixer at medium speed until smooth, about 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Or, beat with spoon until batter is smooth. Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough that leaves the sides of the bowl.
- Cover; let rest 15 minutes.
- Knead on floured surface until smooth and satiny, about 5 minutes.
- Divide dough in half, shape each half into a loaf.
- Place in two greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pans.
- Let rise until doubled, about 1 to ½ hours.
- Bake in 400 degree oven 30-35 minutes or until loaves sound hollow when tapped. Remove from pans; cool on racks.
Makes 2 loaves. Butter after you bake softens your crust.
